{"id":3564,"date":"2020-02-17T12:53:33","date_gmt":"2020-02-17T11:53:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sednet.org\/?page_id=3564"},"modified":"2020-11-09T09:14:05","modified_gmt":"2020-11-09T08:14:05","slug":"4th-meeting-wg-sediments-in-circular-economy","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/sednet.org\/test-wg\/sediments-in-circular-economy\/4th-meeting-wg-sediments-in-circular-economy\/","title":{"rendered":"4th meeting WG Sediments in Circular Economy"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><strong><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">4th meeting SedNet WG Sediments in Circular Economy: 15-16 April 2020<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Due to Covid-19 this meeting was organised online in two sessions:<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; 15 April &#8211; from 9 to 12 hrs Glasgow time (10 to 13 hrs for most others):<br \/>\n* PFAS and<br \/>\n* mass stabilization<br \/>\n&#8211; 16 April &#8211; 9 to 12 hrs Glasgow time (10 to 13 for most others):<br \/>\n* upcoming example projects<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">Summary meeting report<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\nTwenty-one participants representing eleven countries took part in the web sessions to exchange collaborative ideas on Circular Economy (CE) practice and opportunities, and on two focus topics (1) stabilisation and beneficial use and (2) the PFAS problem in sediments).<\/p>\n<p>Two group sessions were led on priority topics identified on WGCE2:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Beyond the initial \u201cmass balance\u201d approach to CE, need for defining \u2018value\u2019 to the ecological potential of sediment \u2013 and Incorporating CO<sub>2<\/sub> and CH<sub>4<\/sub> balance of sediment use in CE balance and funding, benefit or risk?<\/li>\n<li>Setting up a synthetic catalogue of beneficial use options.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The outcome of WGCE3 session on &#8220;Clear definitions of concepts (beneficial use, valorisation, reuse, sustainability)&#8221; was validated.<\/p>\n<p>A first draft of the WG white paper will be initiated with the outcome.<\/p>\n<p>Future meetings are still uncertain with COVID-19 sanitary issues but according to travel possibility,<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>One will include both field visits (pilots, plants and workshops) and focus discussions,<\/li>\n<li>The other one can be organised in live or web format, and comprise topic discussions, white paper and policy\/RTD support documents elaboration.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Both may comprise project proposals workshops if the EU RTD agenda is favourable.<\/p>\n<p>WGCE5 should be set up in October (7<sup>th<\/sup> and 8<sup>th<\/sup>) in Glasgow if travel is allowed, including site visits as expected for WGCE4.<\/p>\n<p>WGCE6 will be organised in connexion with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sednet.org\/events\/sednet-conference-2021\/\">SedNet 2021 conference<\/a> in Lille.
